Use a hydrating primer, no silicone primers, with the fit me matte foundation, especially if you have dry or combo skin. I used it with several times with the elf poreless primer and it piled and caked up BAD in my tzone. I wrote it off till I got the nyx hydrating primer. Omg, if I moisturize well and use only a hydrating primer, it's a gorgeous foundation that matches my very very fair skin perfectly (102 matches my neck dead on). I want to try the dewy one since I prefer that look. The maybelline age rewind concealer is prefect for fuss free blending, I love it. The fit me matte and poreless pressed and loose powder is awesome for that blurred matte look. I also love the Revlon setting spray. I use it like fix+ and it works very similarly. Another great foundation for beginners is the maybelline dream cushion! The included applicator works well on its own, so you don't need a separate sponge or brush for it if you're in a pinch. Just pat and blend it out, if it looks cakey just swipe a damp beauty blender over it. It's my current favorite. It is pricey but it's great for a natural healthy looking finish with a relatively quick and clean application. The milani baked blushes are gorgeous btw. Real techniques makes amazing brushes, but you can't go wrong with most elf pro brushes if you need a specific type. I like their kabuki and angled blush brush, the face brushes are usually good (avoid the selfie stippling brush it's so scratchy and it doesn't make a good brush for anything), their eye brushes are meh... the RT and flower sponge are my favorite affordable sponges. The pink loreal sponge also has a lot of good reviews too. I love loreal voluminous mascara with the lash primer, it's an OG great mascara for dramatic lashes. No frills, but great. Lash paradise is on my list though.I heard wet n wild is great for affordable small shadow palettes, but too faced natural eye palette is great for newbs, might be a go to palette for those who want 2-3 simple go to looks, sadly not drugstore but most natural palettes will work if they have good reviews. Profusion is super affordable at target.

I have the maybelline foundation and it is literally the WORST for combination skin. It sticks to dry areas in my face and it looks so cakey, I don't recommend.
